H20 - with Saves the Day, Grade, and Blank Stare May 5 @ the Opera House

H2O

These New Yorkers sure knew how to rock! They played to a sold out crowd on that lovely Friday night. They came on at 11 and played till 12. The crowd was very much into the show...getting in the pit, clapping, singing along, swearing along hehe. They kicked off their set with "Faster Than the World" this being the F.T.T.W. tour in support of their latest disc of the same title. They ended if off with one of Lisa's favourite songs, One Life One Chance and played it so amazingly, she was a very happy farfie :) They also played another of her favourites, Thicker Than Water from the disc of the same name.

Well Toby (the singer) was going down the wrong path when he mentioned hockey in Toronto with the Leafs in the playoffs. He managed some booing from the audience and also managed to get the whole crowd chanting "Go Leafs, Go" in retalliation hehe. Now knowing that they lost..oh well there's always next year. I think they made a crack about the Raptors and started chanting "new york knicks" until they got seriously booed n made up for it by saying "ah..New York Knicks SUCK!" hehe :)

Vicki's favourite song from this show would have to be I See It In Us from Thicker Than Water (thanks David for getting it for her b-day). A mother brought her young son and his friend to the show for his birthday (damn kool mom!) and it was so nice that Toby brought them all on stage for a while :) That was the sweetest thing a mom could do for her kid...supporting his musical interests. Since this was written on Mother's Day, Vicki would like to take a moment to thank her mom for always supporting her musical tastes...like driving her to all of those shows when she was a wee thing and listening to her music.

After One Life One Chance H2O came back out for an encore, during which they had 1/2 the crowd singing along to a cover of the Backstreet Boys' I Want it That Way, but the best part of the encore was when they covered Madonna's Like A Prayer. We both agree that any song can sound kool covered by a punk band. The only thing we were a little disappointed by was that they didn't play Old School Recess or Phone Song but that's why we'll have to see them again when they come back to town. :)

Saves The Day

New Jersey! The garden state...home to many things...one of them is Saves The Day. These really cute punk guys know their music. Both of us were looking to purchase their CD at the show..but it was sold out..boo hoo =( Vicki'll have to buy it when she gets her summer job (someone call her for an interview...please!) hehe Then we will have to take a trip to one of our favourite places..downtown! and buy it :) For Saves The Day, it's worth the wait :) They went on at 10 and played their hearts out till 10:45. They played a new song for us titled something like sell all my old clothes, I'm going to heaven it was awesome :) Vic describes this band as straightforward punk with a tasty edge. :)

Grade

They were in one word, fantastic! When we got to the show we checked out the Grade merch table to see what they had to offer. To our surprise, the guy selling the t-shirts n stuff, was none other than Kyle, the lead singer. He was really friendly (we love nice people) :) Vic purchased the triumph and tragedy 7" with the cover song Panama on it (Van Halen rocks!! Who doesn't like Jump?) Grade kicked off their 1/2 hour set at 9:15. They played a great set and performed the songs Triumph and Tragedy and Conceptualizing Theories in Motion with so much energy. They put on one really good show :)

Blank Stare

They put on a pretty good show. Unfortunately the sound wasn't the greatest. Therefore, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They're from Toronto. It was Todd the drummer's last show. They were pretty good with the audience, chucking stickers and cds (luckily no one got an eye poked out hehe) into the crowd. They went on at 8:30 and played their 1/2 hour set.
