Ida, Julie Doiran, & Shannon Wright - September 20/00 @ The Rivoli

Another fantastic show at the Rivoli. The show was kicked off with Julie Doiron, Canada's favourite. Her sweet voice and melodies enthralled the entire audience for the whole set. The set was quite simple, she just had her acoustic guitar and her lovely voice. She played two new Francophone songs. Also songs from her juno winning album with the wooden stars and the individual album Will You Still Love Me . Sitting on the stairs on the side of the stage I got a great view of the emotion she puts into her songs. She played with her eyes closed..and smiled when she played a wrote note. In concerts of this nature, the audience sat on the florr and like a good "classroom" listened attentively to her lovely music. She talked with the audience and told jikes...it was the best. Next, was Shannon Wright who has an album off of touch and go records. All I can say is that her set was weird. It was in the category of, this is weird and I don't know if it's food or bad. She was very elusive and didn't talk to the audience...except for a few "thanks". Closing off was IDA, a wonderful band on tigerstyle records. They were offered a few major label record deals, but they decided to stay with an independent label. The first song they played was Mike's and my favourite song Maybelle off their new album If You Find Me . We didn't stay much longer because it was already midnight when they first got on stage. It was a fantastic set nonetheless.
