MxPx Concert - April 18/00

Alright, this show was at the Guvernment, doors opened at 8. There were 3 bands on the bill, Ghoti Hook, The Hippos, and MxPx. When we got there, Ghoti Hook was already playing. They were alright, pretty good really. Not a band I'd go to see at their own show...unless of course someone good was opening. See that's what happened here, we went to see the Hippos, but MxPx turned out to be a kick-ass band :) Anyways, Ghoti Hook got off and they were setting up for The Hippos..the atmosphere was great. It was an all ages show, but everyone was great, lots of friendly faces and we didn't have any problems the whole night. So The Hippos take the stage and from their opening note till their last, they were amazing :) They played mostly songs off their new album "Heads Are Gonna Roll" (available May 23rd at a store near you!) and some old stuff as well. They even got the whole crowd singing the entire Canadian National Anthem at one point during their set. It put a smile on everyone's face I could see, they definitely had the crowd into it :) The guys in the band just seemed to be having a really great time and that always gets the audience into it to see the band having a good time playing for them. It was their first time in Toronto and I think it's safe to say, they seemed interested in coming back :) After The Hippos and the lights come on, you could just sense all the excitement in the place. Everyone was anxiously awaiting MxPx. When the lights went back down, the crowd went nutz. From the beginning to the end of their set they had the crowd with them. Their music is fast and loud and really good. They also have a new disc coming out (June 16th I believe they said). Their whole set was awesome and after it was over, they came back out and played 3 more songs to the absolute delight of their fans. One of those songs was "I'm ok, you're ok" and it was awesome :) Overall, the show was totally awesome and if you missed it, ha ha :P you missed one hell of a great concert :P
