North By Northeast - Thursday June 8 - Saturday June 10/00

Day 1

I have wanted to go to the NXNE festival for about six years...but I was either too young or was busy when it happened. I only got to see four artists because I was busy with school and I wanted to appreciate what I saw. It started on Thursday night. Mike and I were so excited that we were going to see Julie Dorion, but that show was cancelled. So we decided to go to the elmo. We started off with Tetrezene. I just received their cd a few weeks before the show and I really liked it. Their set was extremely good. It is that calculated sleeper noise rock that can be a little hard to listen to when you have spent the day working and then go to class and then see a show. One guy was standing in front of the stage....I think he was the guy from Chart since he seemed really into it...plus when I read the review in Chart they got an excellent mark (they rated their shows out of a hundred). Next we went upstairs to see Tuuli. I earlier mentioned that Chris Gray was the most styling guy in indie/punk music in the Mississauga/Oakville/Burlington/Brampton area...well these girls are definitely the most styling in the Oakville area. Their newest release will be released on sympathy for the record industry. The amount of style these girls have is phenomenal. It was powerful and energetic punk music for all to enjoy.

Day 3

This was our quiet day...we went to the Cameron House to see the Endearing showcase. Again, we (Mike and I) left early...tiredness does get to us. We were lucky enough to see Christine Fellows. She was fantastic. I think Christine was not too happy with the sound...but she had nothing to worry about because it sounded great. I think I loved it so much because of the lovely cello. It was a fantastic show.
